Community Rail Week is taking place
across Britain from 19 - 27 May inclusive. As
your local railway, the East Suffolk Line has organised
a number of events. You are invited to take part in the
many activities, from guided walks, to special museum entry offers, station floral displays, and even an open weekend at
Darsham Station.
Long Shop
Museum
at Leiston is offering discounted entry on production
of a rail ticket for Community Rail Week 19 to 27 May. The special two-for-one
rate will allow museum entry for £2 rather than the regular rate
of £4.50 See exhibitions from Garretts and public transport including the
local railway and trolley buses, and the progress being made with the restoration of
Sirapite, the former Garrett Works shunting
loco built by Aveling and Porter in 1906. Visitors on 24/25 May can
witness our Victorian Apprentice Days when local school children re-enact a
typical day at Garretts in 1871.
East Anglia Transport
Museum at Carlton Colville will offer concessionary entry rate
for anyone presenting a valid rail ticket; this gives a reduction from
£6.00 to £5.00 for adults. During Community Rail Week the East Anglia
Transport Museum is open on Sundays 20 & 27
May from 11am-5pm, and
on
Thursday 24 May from 2-5pm. Last admission one hour before
closing.
Four Guided Walks will take place over the course of the week. The walks are
taken directly from the East Suffolk Line Walks Booklet which is
available free from staffed rail stations, Tourist Information
Centres, local Suffolk libraries and many other outlets along the
East Suffolk Line. Please wear suitable clothing and footwear, and bear in
mind that participation in the walks is entirely at your own risk.
