Bicycles Carried Free On The East Suffolk
Line
In an effort to promote environmentally friendly ways of travel, rail
operator 'one' has decided to eliminate the charge to carry bicycles on
all its services including the East Suffolk Line. Previously passengers
bringing along a bicycle were charged a flat fare
of £1 for
local journeys and £3 per single journey on mainline services to
London.
Commenting on the decision to eliminate bicycle fees,
Dominic Booth, Managing Director for 'one' said "The combination of
bikes and trains is a 'green' option for
many journeys. So we're
pleased to encourage sustainable transport trips wherever
we
can. This development, combined with our work to increase cycle
parking at
many of our stations in recent years, is part of a
dedicated effort to make integrated public transport a real alternative
for as many journeys as possible in East Anglia."
Everytime a bicycle is carried on 'one' trains in
Suffolk, Norfolk, or Cambridgeshire it
is also covered by a cycle
rescue scheme at no additional charge. The scheme
gives 24 hour
breakdown cover in the form of transportation for your bicycle (and if
appropriate yourself) to the nearest appropriate rail station, suitable
bicycle repair
shop, car rental agency, overnight accomodation, or if
nearer, your home. See the
'one' Railway website for complete details.
Free reservations are
recommended when bringing a bicycle on the East Suffolk Line and other
local services as each train
has space for only four bicycles. Complimentary reservations are required for cycle carriage on
Intercity journeys to London. It is not necessary to
make reservations for folding bicycles on any
'one' service, local or
Intercity.
